DALLAS – On February 2, 2021, President Biden issued three Executive Orders ordering review of family separationmigration at the U.S. Southern Border, and the Public Charge rule and barriers to naturalization.

“At HRI, we believe in a just immigration system,” said Pilar Ferguson, Human Rights Initiative of North Texas’s Asylum and Children’s Programs Director. “Yesterday’s Executive Orders help move us a step in that direction by ordering Executive Agencies to make plans to redress family separation, to address root causes of migration to the Southern Border, and to review recent barriers in our immigration system. But a just system also means redressing the history of racism and anti-Blackness of our immigration policy that long precedes the last Administration. We call on the Biden Administration and Congress to continue to swiftly undo the harm of the past four years and rebuild a new immigration system with racial justice at its core.”
