Training + Development
Orientation (Mandatory Training) After a volunteer has been accepted, they must attend an initial orientation session. This is a mandatory training where the volunteer will receive general information about HRI and the services it provides as well as specific information regarding the assignment the volunteer will be working on. This is a great opportunity to clarify any questions the volunteer may have, and to obtain any materials they may need to ensure successful completion of the assignment. Program Specific Training Please see the appropriate addendum for information about specific training for the assigned program: Advocacy Program Volunteers Client Services Volunteers Interpreter & Translator Program Volunteers Pro Bono Volunteers Fundraising Volunteers General Office & Administrative Support Volunteers Interns Community Service (Undergraduate and Law Students) Staff Involvement in Training The staff responsible for the services that the volunteers will be providing should have a role in the design and delivery of the training sessions. Individual staff members that are responsible for supervising volunteer groups are also responsible for their training. Continuing Education and Conference and Meeting Attendance Volunteers are encouraged to improve their skills and expand their interests during their volunteer work at HRI, and to attend to the training sessions offered by HRI. Also, volunteers are encouraged to attend to conferences and meetings relevant to their volunteer assignments after approval from their program supervisor. Volunteers should schedule individual meetings with their supervisor to discuss continuing education and training for an area related to their volunteer work.
