A Dallas Immigration Court Judge granted one of our clients Withholding of Removal under the Torture Convention, thus allowing her to remain in the U.S., and receive work authorization. The client, from Guinea, originally applied for asylum in 2008. She underwent female genital mutilation as a child and feared returning to her home country because while she was living in the U.S., her father threatened to force her to marry an older male relative and re-circumcise her. Pro bono attorneys from Vinson & Elkins worked on the case.
