Human Rights Initiative of North Texas (HRI) Statement on DACA decision
DALLAS – On July 16, 2021, Judge Hanen of the Southern District of Texas declared DACA unlawful. DACA is a temporary protection for undocumented youth to lawfully work and stay in the United States.
“To our family, friends, and community, we’re here standing with you,” said Zeyla Gonzalez, HRI’s DOJ Accredited Representative. “Today’s decision finding DACA unlawful happened because our Texas politicians continue to target undocumented people for their own political gain. This violence needs to end now. Yesterday’s House budget included a pathway to citizenship for so many stuck in limbo–immigrant youth, TPS holders, farmworkers, and essential workers. It’s time for Congress to deliver.”
