On this morning, as Russia invades Ukraine, we think of the countless Ukrainians lurched into a humanitarian crisis. They join the ranks of so many, who have been forced to make the impossible decision to flee their homes for their safety.

As our government responds to this international crisis, we cannot forget the many who have already fled humanitarian crisis who remain in limbo without protection. Afghans who are seeking protection from the Taliban. Haitians who the Administration deports without even a chance to make a bid for safety in the US. The likely-thousands of asylum seekers trapped in the backlogs for work authorization, losing their jobs through no fault of their own.

This difficult morning is yet another reminder that Title 42 and MPP must go, that the backlogs must be cleared, and that refugees—no matter the color of their skin—must be welcome.
