An HRI client from Cameroon can now apply for a Green Card. The client, whose father was granted political asylum in 2000 in the U.S., sought to come to the U.S. to be with his family after they suffered political persecution for his father’s unwillingness to participate in a corrupt government.
After he entered the United States, he learned he could not apply for a Green Card without filing an asylum application asking for a nunc pro tunc approval. He was classified as a nunc pro tunc asylum applicant, meaning he was able to be granted asylum that back-dated to an earlier date. Nunc pro tunc allows a child, whose parents previously applied for asylum on the child’s behalf, to reapply for status on their own application because the child has “aged out.”
His father is now a naturalized citizen and his mother and sisters were granted asylum because of the father’s status as an asylee. For more information click here.
