In September, prior to his re-election, President Barack Obama authorized the admission of up to 70,000 refugees to the United States for the Fiscal Year 2013. The admission of 70,000 refugees for FY 2013 is justified by humanitarian concerns and U.S. foreign policy interest.
The allocation will be divided amongst the regions as such: 12,000 from Africa; 17,000 from East Asia; 2,000 from Europe and Central Asia; 5,000 from Latin America and the Caribbean; 31,000 from the Near East and South Asia; and 3,000 unallocated reserves. The unallocated reserve will be added to different regions as needed.
