World AIDS Day

Today, December 1, is World AIDS Day, a day devoted to the remembrance of those who have fallen to the disease and to raising the awareness of AIDS pandemic caused by the widespread of the HIV infection.

According to WorldAIDSDay.org, there are 33.4 million people living with HIV worldwide, 2.1 million of which are children. This is a staggering figure.

Though this disease is a worldwide pandemic, its effect in poorer countries can be especially devastating. A lack of resources, information, and sexual education means that AIDS and the HIV virus have a particularly strong strangle hold on the poorest of nations.
