Action Alert: Help stop Round 2 of Cameroonian Deportations

Remember when we wrote 3 weeks ago because the US was sending Cameroonian asylum seekers home to certain danger? Unfortunately, it’s about to happen again.

We need your help.

Once again, ICE is using the detention center in our backyard–Prairieland, just 40 miles outside of Dallas–to send people back into the hands of their persecutors. Can you help make calls to try to stop these deportations?

👇🏽👇🏽 Here’s what to do 👇🏽👇🏽

1. Call 202-224-3121, and ask to talk to these representatives: Sen. Chris Van Hollen, Rep. Bennie Thompson, Rep. Cedric Richmond, Rep. Karen Bass, Rep. Jason Crow, Rep. Joe Neguse

Here’s a suggested script:

My name is _______, and I’m calling from __________ to ask you to do everything you can to stop the mass deportation flight scheduled for Tuesday from Prairieland Detention Center in the DFW area. I urge you to act now to stop the flight and to demand an investigation into the ongoing abuses of Cameroonian asylum seekers in ICE detention.

Just last month, we watched ICE deport Cameroonians back to danger. The horrible predictions came true: since their return to Cameroon, many have gone missing.

Do not stand by while this happens again. Many of the asylum seekers on Tuesday’s flight are still in the middle of their immigration appeals. Some have been held in solitary; some have been forced to sign their own deportation papers because of violent force. Danger awaits them if they are sent back. Even the State Department has acknowledged the human rights abuses they’ll face. It is our moral and legal responsibility never to return people into the hands of persecutors.

Use your power. Stop this now.

2. Help make this viral. Share these Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter posts. We need as many people as possible raising the alarm.

3. Keep elevating and resourcing directly impacted advocates and voices, including the Cameroonian American Council.
