HRI is excited to announce Veronica Gonzalez as Director of Social Services. Learn more about her passion for the department, how they support our clients, and how you can get involved below.
What excites you about your new role as Director of Social Services?
VG: I am absolutely thrilled about my recent promotion to Director of Social Services. What excites me the most is our current period of transition. It feels like we have a blank canvas to work on. It’s an incredibly exciting time as we have the opportunity to shape the future of our department and the services we provide.
What initiatives and programs have the Social Services department recently focused on?
VG: Our Social Services department has been focusing on initiatives to address the pressing needs of our clients. We are collaborating closely with our existing partners to assist our clients with food and toiletry needs, especially given the rising cost of living. We’ve initiated food drives and toiletry drives in partnership with several community organizations to meet the growing demands of our clients, particularly as we approach the holiday season when needs multiply. We’re also diligently working on our holiday programs to provide additional support to our clients during this crucial time.
What inspires you as a leader in and outside the office?
VG: As a leader, both inside and outside the office, I find inspiration in different aspects of my life. Inside the office, my clients and dedicated colleagues are my constant sources of motivation. Outside of work, it’s my family and the lifelong dream I’ve had to make a meaningful impact on my immigrant community that keeps me driven.
How exactly does Social Services support HRI’s clients and community?
VG: Our Social Services department at HRI offers invaluable support to help our clients navigate their day-to-day lives while awaiting immigration case decisions. We provide short-term financial assistance, connect clients with community resources, advocate on their behalf, and offer essential resources like food and toiletries.
How can the public support HRI’s Social Services department now or in the future?
VG: To support HRI’s Social Services department, the public can get involved in several ways. They can volunteer their time and expertise, donate food and toiletries, or contribute financially. Advocating for immigration reform is also a crucial way to support our mission and help immigrant communities thrive.
